In what appears to be a bit of a strange interview with Marca, Gerard Pique has said that, when Cesc Fabregas played for Arsenal and he for Manchester United, they’d call each other and tell each other the teams.

It’s unclear whether the defender was joking or not, as obviously context and jokes can be lost in both translation and print. However, if true, it doesn’t look too good.

“Cesc was a pioneer to go to London at 16 years of age and then others went and he was an example to many, for me he was an example,” Pique said.

“When Manchester United played Arsenal…. we called to tell each other the teams.”

One of the moments which signaled the ‘beginning of the end’ for Cesc at Arsenal was when we played Barcelona in the Champions League and the Spaniard went along their team hugging, laughing and smiling with them. There are times for niceties and this wasn’t one of them and it set the tone for the match.

If it turns out Cesc was telling our rivals our team sheet and vice versa before even then, I doubt it’s going to endear the midfielder to Gooners much further.
