Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat of Bayern Munich on Tuesday evening but an end to a number of impressive streaks Pep Guardiola’s side were on.

Since Guardiola became manager in 2013, Bayern had scored in all 20 of their Champions League group matches before visiting the Emirates Stadium.

In all competitions they had scored in 17 consecutive games, and had won 12 games in a row this season.

Not anymore. A win and a clean sheet was mightily impressive from Arsène Wenger’s men, who are now back in the hunt for a place in the last 16 of the competition.

Managing to beat Bayern is one thing, but to win by two goals? Bayern hadn’t conceded two goals in a game all season before Tuesday evening. 12 wins, 40 goals scored and just six conceded in the Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB Pokal.

The Gunners also managed to preserve a record of their own after an incredibly disappointing start to their Champions League campaign; the club have never lost three Champions League games. That was very much in danger with Bayern in town, but a huge performance ensured we came out on top.
