Alan Smith spoke following the 3-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday and discussed how he still doesn’t believe Arsenal will win the league but if they want to, it’s now or never.

With Chelsea’s laughable start to the season, which sees them floundering down in 16th on just eight points, former Gunner Smith reckons this is the best time for Arsenal to stage a title challenge. Saying that, he doesn’t believe we will if we don’t find some consistency soon.

“I don’t think they have to win it this year, although it could be a good opportunity with Chelsea’s troubles,” Smith said.

“Arsenal are a big, big club with 60,000 punters through the turnstiles at every home game and £200m in the bank.

“Whatever you say about the spending power of Manchester City and Chelsea, they should be challenging every year from here on in.

“Yes, this could be a really good opportunity and you’re looking for consistency but it’s not now or never for me.”

The issue is, we are inconsistent but only over different competitions – this season anyway. In the league, we’ve only lost once on the opening day (although the less said about that the better) and since then we’ve gone on to climb up to second place.

We’ve also won our first and only cup game against Spurs, knocking them out and making sure everyone knows who the main team in north London is.

If we can remain consistent, especially in the league, I don’t see why we couldn’t win it.
