Teenage midfielder Indy Boonen agreed a deal to join Manchester United last February, and his dad has now revealed that Arsenal were snubbed in order to complete the move.

Now with United’s u18 side, Boonen is just 16 years old, and could’ve been wearing red in London instead of Manchester.

“Ajax had shown interest, but Indy always said that it would be United,” Jacky Boonen, the teenager’s father, said to Het Beland van Limburg.

“He was also going to trial with Red Bull Salzburg, Arsenal, Feyenoord, VfL Wolfsburg and FC Basel.”

The player opted to leave Genk for Old Trafford, and you can’t help but wonder what Arsenal have missed out on. Both clubs have had huge success with importing young talent in the recent future and with so much interest in Boonen he clearly has a lot of potential.

The Gunners have managed to pip Manchester United to the signing of Yassin Fortune instead, as the Frenchman signed from RC Lens along with Jeff Reine-Adelaide. As well as the two French youth internationals the Gunners have made a big push for more young European talents this summer and added Vlad Dragomir and Donyell Malen to the ranks.

Maybe Arsenal missed out on a huge talent but, with the number of European players we’ve added with a lot of potential over the course of the summer, there shouldn’t be too much to be worried about.
