Last weekend Manchester City lost for the first time this season.

A 2-1 defeat at the hands of West Ham United cut short incredibly premature suggestions that Manuel Pellegrini’s team could go the entire season unbeaten, and star midfielder Yay Touré has insisted Arsenal’s achievement will never be repeated.

The 2003/04 season saw the Gunners go unbeaten, something which has otherwise never happened in the modern English game. 38 games, 0 defeats and the league title.

Kolo Touré, the midfielder’s older brother, played 37 of the league games Arsenal went through that season, and Yaya is certain nobody will ever match the triumph that his brother was a key part of.

“The Premier League is always improving and you see how the big clubs invest in players for a lot of money and this sequence in football – the Invincibles – it will never happen again in the Premier League,” the Ivorian midfielder said after City lost in the Premier League for the first time this season.

“All the teams are spending money, buying big players. Like West Ham, even Leicester, Stoke spending on players from Barcelona.

“You can understand how the Premier League is so competitive because all the players want to come to England and want to improve, and want to play well. You are not surprised to see Chelsea losing at home to Crystal Palace. It’s difficult, the Premier League.”

The only team still unbeaten after six Premier League games is Leicester City, who the Gunners face on Saturday. A win and Arsenal can ensure their very own landmark season remains unique in the modern game in this country.

Meanwhile, Manchester City currently sit five points clear of Arsenal atop the Premier League table. Yaya Touré is looking for his third Premier League title this year, but there’s one thing his brother has that he’ll never manage to achieve.
