As if Jack Wilshere hasn’t had enough trouble with injuries, his fractured fibula is causing him more trouble than anticipated.

Last Thursday Arsenal boss Arsène Wenger confirmed that the midfielder has suffered an unexpected setback after it was originally thought he would be in full training by now, following the international break.

Now the Telegraph report that, though the club deny any final decision has been made, Arsenal have booked Wilshere in for surgery on Thursday. The operation would see the midfielder have a metal plate inserted into his leg.

Danny Welbeck has already suffered a huge setback after what was initially described as a fairly minor knee injury has ruled him out since April, the England forward won’t be seen until Christmas at the earliest. You can’t really contradict the Telegraph‘s willingness to question Arsenal’s rehabilitation methods as something is clearly wrong either with those or the diagnoses that the club are receiving.

Wilshere hasn’t made 30 Premier League appearances in a season since his breakthrough in 2010/11 and by this point you seriously have to be concerned.

Hopefully, should he undergo surgery, it is a success but even then you can’t help but feel the next injury will be just around the corner.
