Despite netting his 11th goal in 11 Premier League starts, the debate rages on as to whether or not Theo Walcott is good enough to do the job up top on a permanent basis.

In fact, the narrative that we are seeing from the media this season is getting more than a little ridiculous. You may not believe that Theo should play as a striker, but it’s hard to argue with his figures and acting like he’s the only front man on the planet to ever miss a chance or two helps no-one.

Speaking to Arsenal.com, Arsene Wenger has revealed what he thinks Theo needs to become an ‘instinctive finisher’ – more goals.

“I think he has an eye for the goal,” the boss said. “The quality of his receptions in the box is at the top. He will become an instinctive finisher when he has a couple of goals behind him.

“He needs a few more goals to score a bit more spontaneously. He is quick and gets into good little pockets.”

Theo’s goal against Stoke, the first of the afternoon, meant that he has now scored in 10 consecutive seasons for the club. He’s the first since Dennis Bergkamp to achieve that milestone, quite the achievement really.

In total, Theo has 77 goals for Arsenal in 195 starts (+122 sub appearances).
