With the transfer window gradually coming to a close, reports have been running rampant over claims that Arsenal are ready to make a big Deadline Day transfer for Edinson Cavani.

According to reports, Arsene Wenger has now flown to Paris in order to tie up the deal.

The Gunners were heavily linked with Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema for the majority of the summer, but the Frenchman publicly denied claims he’d be making a switch in the window via social media.

Now, rumours are suggesting Cavani is the ideal move. The 28-year-old striker has cut a forlorn figure at times during his tenure in Paris, and has been constantly undermined by the individual brilliance of Zlatan Ibrahimović.

Having already had issues with PSG boss Laurent Blanc, Cavani is eager for opportunities to shine in his preferred central striking role but has been often deployed out on the wing, which has hurt his goal-scoring statistics over the past few seasons.

In his prime, the Uruguayan forward would be an exciting signing for Arsenal supporters to ponder, not least on deadline day itself. £40-45m is roughly the transfer fee which Les Parisiens would accept, and he’d become their second big-name departure of the window following Yohan Cabaye’s switch to Crystal Palace.

Having scored 31 goals in 52 appearances last term, he’d be a big-name arrival in north London with plenty of questions surrounding whether or not Arsène Wenger’s men can sustain a solid title challenge this season.

Whether or not Cavani will join though, remains to be seen. All that’s left, is the uncertainty and tension that surrounds deadline day itself.
