After a truck load of criticism recently for not signing a striker during the transfer window, Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he did try to.

Following the news that Danny Welbeck’s injury was far more serious than originally thought and that he’d had to undergo surgery to correct it, leaving him sidelined for months, Gooners were livid that Wenger didn’t sign a striker during the transfer window.

The main forward we were linked to, Karim Benzema, shot down any rumours that he would be leaving Real Madrid himself via his social media, and after that, it seemed as if Arsenal stopped looking. However, according to the boss, he was still looking but the right deal didn’t come up.

“Yes [I did try to sign more players] but I told you many times and I have not got much more to say about it,” he said.

“You have to find an efficient solution.”

Wenger continued, “There is no need to talk about that too much now.

“We have to focus on what is in front of us. I said to you, and I didn’t lie, that we were ready to do something, but you have to be convinced that it’s not just to please people, that it’s an efficient solution.

“And the efficient solution didn’t turn up. As well you have to be brave enough to say no.”

As many writers on this site have already brought up, before hurling abuse at our manager, who only has the best interests of the club at heart, perhaps take a look at the market itself and realise that there aren’t a lot of options out there at the moment.
