Reports coming out Spain are claiming that Arsene Wenger blocked Nacho Monreal’s move to Athletic Bilbao over the summer.

In what has become quite a tedious story, the Spanish press were relentless over the summer in their claims that the Spaniard would return home to play for the Basque side and seemed to pay absolutely no attention whatsoever to the player’s claims that he was happy at Arsenal and had no intention to leave.

As pointed out by Sport Witness, the Spanish press like to blame a lot of stuff on Wenger, often without merit, and this seems to be another one of those occasions when they are simply sticking the knife in.

What, exactly, is wrong with a manager not wanting to let one of his best players go? Nothing if you ask me.

Nacho probably will return to Bilbao at some point in the future but it won’t be anytime soon. Number one choice at the club for the left-back position, he has grown into the role and become a real favourite with the fans.

Although fans on Arsenal.com picked Francis Coquelin as their player of the month for August, here at Daily Cannon, we went for Nacho and even produced this handy little infograph to explain why.
