The BBC’s David Ornstein believes that Danny Welbeck will return by Christmas after the forward underwent surgery.

Out since April, the announcement that he had to go under the knife comes just two days after the close of the transfer window in which Arsenal did not reinforce and has seen the fanbase explode with rage.

Now, on Twitter, Ornstein has stated that the player will be out until Christmas at the latest but also added the club were well aware of this before the window closed – something that is bound to add fuel to an already raging fire.

Ornstein is seen as being the most reliable journalist there is when it comes to Arsenal-related news and transfer gossip.

The news certainly explains why Joel Campbell was kept at the club with it being claimed a move to Palermo was blocked by Arsene Wenger and it would also help explain why they were chasing a player on loan on deadline day.
