Mathieu Flamini proved to be an unlikely hero on Wednesday night, scoring his 12th and 13th goals for Arsenal in a north London derby.

The French midfielder is known for his no-nonsense approach rather than finding the back of the net, but he has scored some great goals for Arsenal. What are his best five?

5th: Chelsea 1-1 Arsenal, 2006/07

Poor goalkeeping, but a brilliant Arsenal move saw Flamini neatly tuck the ball away at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea scored an injury time equaliser through Michael Essien, but Arsène Wenger was within seconds of beating José Mourinho all that time ago.

4th: Aston Villa 1-2 Arsenal, 2007/08

This would be higher but, for some reason, nobody has put it on the internet.

Without Cesc Fábregas, Alex Hleb was pulling the strings at Villa Park. Lassana Diarra was also being used and drove Arsenal forward. Emmanuel Adebayor combined with Emmanuel Eboué and his low cutback was thrashed home by the left foot of Flamini to send Arsenal five points clear at the top of the table. Phwoar.

3rd: Cardiff City 0-3 Arsenal, 2013/14

Found brilliantly by Mesut Özil, Flamini tucked the ball home to send Arsenal 2-0 up at Cardiff.

2nd: Arsenal 3-0 Newcastle United, 2007/08

Wow, who knew he had this in him?

With little pressure on the ball on Flamini 30 yards from goal, the Frenchman fired home one of the best goals ever scored at the Emirates Stadium.

1st: Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Arsenal, 2015/16

How can a sweetly struck volley get any better? By scoring it in a derby game!

Flamini’s second of the game on Wednesday night turned out to be the winner, and what a strike it was. The ball came down with snow on it but a controlled volley sent it past Michel Vorm to win the first north London derby of the season.

Beautiful.
