Theo Walcott spoke after the Leicester match about Alexis Sanchez’s hat-trick, insisting that even when he’s not scoring he’s helping the team in some way, and he’s expanded on this, talking about the pressure the Chilean is under after a superb first season.

Alexis scored 25 goals in his first season at Arsenal – that’s a huge tally for someone in a completely new team, in a new league, no matter how accomplished they are elsewhere.

The problem is, when a forward performs like Alexis did last season, the pressure is on the do the same, if not better, the next.

Theo, however, insists that, despite the pressure, the Chilean doesn’t let it get to him and always shows up to training with a smile.

“When you come into the Premier League for your first season and score that number of goals, there’s a lot of pressure on your shoulders straight away, and there’s a lot of expectation because of the fee,” Theo said.

“But he’s not fazed by anything – he doesn’t put pressure on himself and he’s a very chilled, relaxed man who always plays with a smile on his face.

“That’s what you want in the dressing-room, players who enjoy playing football. Even when he’s not scoring, he’s happy for the team to do well and that’s the sign of a great team player.”

Theo added, “The goals have always been there – it was just a matter of time and now I’m sure he’s going to flourish. Now he’s scoring goals, we’re going to be even more of a threat, without a doubt.”

Although many were skeptical that Alexis could be a first season wonder, against Leicester he looked truly back to his best and I have no doubt that he’ll go on to have another amazing season.
