Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen has admitted that he doesn’t know if he will play in Wednesday night’s fixture against Arsenal.

The Belgian defender, who joined Spurs in 2012, has said Spurs have a big squad and they know exactly what the north London derby means to both clubs.

“We have a big squad and it was very important to win to go to Arsenal on Wednesday,” Vertonghen said after Spurs beat Crystal Palace on Sunday.

“I don’t know who’s going to play (against Arsenal) but whoever does, everyone knows how important those games are for us and for the fans. We will play a strong team, I guess, and hopefully get the same result.”

“I think I lost only once or twice (to Arsenal) and I’ve won a couple so my record (against them is) not too bad.”

Hm, better go check the history books, Jan.

The defender has played against Arsenal six times, losing three of the north London derbies he’s appeared in since joining Spurs three years ago.

Vertonghen was in the Tottenham defence when Arsenal won 5-2 in November 2012, and was on the losing side twice the following season, as Arsenal won all three north London derbies in that campaign without conceding a goal.

The Belgian missed an FA Cup game between the both sides but played in the Premier League games, which Arsenal won by one goal with Olivier Giroud the hero at Emirates Stadium and Tomas Rosicky thundering home the winner at White Hart Lane.

Like most at Spurs, it seems that Vertonghen is just a little bit deluded.
