On loan at Italian club AS Roma, Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny fancies his side’s chances up against Barcelona this week.

The Spanish giants won the treble last season and have started their La Liga defence with three wins, and will start the defence of the Champions League against Roma in midweek.

The club from the Italian capital are in high spirits after picking up seven points from their opening three games of the season, and Szczesny kept his first clean sheet for the club over the weekend.

“It was an important victory, now we move on to the Champions League,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport following Saturday’s 2-0 win over Frosinone. “We look forward to confronting a great club like Barcelona.

“We have already demonstrated with our win over Juventus that we have great confidence with the best teams in Europe.”

Last season saw Juventus make it all the way to the Champions League final, where Barcelona defeated them in Berlin.

Now Szczesny is hopeful that his Italian team can go all the way, and a good result and performance against Barcelona would certainly send out a message to the rest of Europe. He’s been in a side that defeated Barcelona before, so why not again?

“If we will defend well, you never know. The coach will decide the tactics but we certainly will go on the pitch to try to win the game.”

Saves like this one will do Roma’s chances the world of good.
