The question of whether incompetent referees should be demoted from the Premier League needs to be asked when you see Mike Dean’s performance for Chelsea v Arsenal.

The answer is no, because you would probably run out of referees by match day 10. That is how bad the situation is in the Premier League.

I had a look at the FA handbook 2015/16 to see if a club can report a match official for misconduct and I did not find anything except in the respect section:

MATCH OFFICIALS

We all have a responsibility to promote high standards of behaviour in the game.

The behaviour of the match officials has an impact, directly and indirectly, on the conduct of everyone involved in the game – both on the pitch and on the sidelines.

Play your part and observe The FA’s Respect Code of Conduct of match officials at all time.

I will:

  • Be honest and completely impartial at all times
  • Apply the Laws of the Game and competition rules fairly and consistently

Clearly that one did not happen today and Arsenal should have the balls to report Mike Dean. The FA and the PGMOL have shown through the years that they are joke organisations and do not deal with or organise refereeing properly.

The referees are poor at every level you watch the game: Sunday League, Non-League women’s football and the Premier League as well.

It is time to reform refereeing properly, so that the referees do not influence the result of a football game. They are here to apply the Laws of the game properly, rightly and fairly, not to influence the match results as they do on a regular basis.

Until those organisations do their job and clean their act up, we will always have mistakes and controversy. Or maybe it is time to leave the job to robots, although the Terminator might not be a good solution.
