Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo is becoming frustrated early in his loan spell at Dutch giants Ajax.

The 22-year-old is spending the entire season in Amsterdam but, after four Eredivisie games and four European fixtures, has played just 60 minutes for the Ajax first team so far this season.

Sanogo hasn’t featured in the last two league games for the Dutch league leaders, sitting on the bench and being sent to play for the reserves in the meantime.

When the Frenchman signed for Ajax the club were expected to make the Champions League group stage, but found themselves knocked out in the qualifying rounds by Austrian side Rapid Vienna. With the Europa League group stage starting next week and Arkadiusz Milik the only other striker at Frank de Boer’s disposal, surely Sanogo will be due more opportunities soon?

Wenger will hope so, otherwise it’s just another year wasted as it really is minutes on the pitch that Sanogo requires to develop. At the age of 22 he can’t really afford a failed loan spell.

With Danny Welbeck out for at least three months, maybe it would’ve been worth keeping Sanogo around in north London for the season.
