When Claudio Ranieri was last in England, Arsenal went the season unbeaten.

Ranieri’s time at Chelsea came to an end as Arsène Wenger and his invincibles celebrated their success, but six games into his Premier League return it is Ranieri’s Leicester side who remain the final unbeaten team in the Premier League.

Arsenal will aim to end that streak on Saturday and, in doing so, will hope to get a title challenge back on track.

“When they were the Invincibles that was an unbelievable achievement and I don’t know why they have to wait so long,” the Leicester City boss said on Thursday.

“I was surprised because Arsène is a good manager and every time he chooses very good players. But maybe it is not easy to play without Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Freddie Ljungberg and all the defenders. That is not easy.

“They are definitely ready to be title contenders again this season, the Champions League maybe not yet, but with a little luck, why not?”

Arsenal are five points adrift of Manchester City heading into the weekend and, should City beat Tottenham on Saturday lunchtime, will be as many as eight behind by that time the game at the King Power stadium gets underway.

Beating Leicester could be crucial to any Arsenal title challenge this season, as the Gunners have got off to a very disappointing start.

“It’s not my problem,” Ranieri insisted. “My problem is to try and beat Arsenal now. My record against them is bad and if I remember well I didn’t win for 13 matches – but I won the last.”

That last cost the Gunners a Champions League semi-final during the unbeaten season, but wasn’t quite enough to derail the charge to the title.

This time around, Wenger needs to come out on top.
