After drawing 0-0 with Israel on Sunday, Wales international Aaron Ramsey expressed disappointment at failing to seize the opportunity to qualify but insists there are positives to be taken from the game.

Wales currently sit at the top of Group B with 18 points and two more matches to play. However, the midfielder recognises the importance of qualifying soon and is eager to push on.

“We will take a lot of positives from the result. It just didn’t quite come off in front of goal,” the midfielder said.

“Ultimately we did alright because we had a long journey over to Cyprus and a few of the boy were struggling.

“We are still top of the group. We’d have taken that at the start of the week.”

Wales play both Bosnia-Herzegovina and Andorra in October, while second in the group, Belgium, play Andorra and Israel. Wales therefore have the slightly easier fixtures and look in a good position to progress. However, as it’s been so long since the country were involved in a football tournament of this scale, the pressure is most certainly on.

Ramsey has now racked up over 30 caps for his country, despite being out for so long with his broken leg and seen the squad blossom into a very capable team. It must be exciting to watch his home country come so far.
