Ray Parlour isn’t convinced by Manchester United’s new signing, Anthony Martial.

The Red Devils signed the 19-year-old for a whopping £36m from Monaco and Arsenal legend, Parlour, reckons United have made a mistake signing the striker for so much money.

“Will Martial succeed? I look forward to seeing him play, but I think it’s going to be a miss, because the money they’ve spent is an unbelievable amount,” Parlour said.

“With the money they’ve put out, I could be totally wrong, but I’m going to say miss on that one.”

Martial is a player we were also linked with but I can’t even imagine the fuss that would have been made if Wenger had signed such a young player for such a high amount.

The striker is also an example of how competitive the market is for forwards right now. Clubs aren’t willing to let their top strikers go for minimal money anymore and the world class forwards don’t want to leave top clubs.

It’s therefore difficult to criticise Wenger for not signing a striker during the window. There weren’t a huge amount of options and the players who were available were laughably over priced. Maybe fans should take this into consideration before slating him.
