Following the FA overturning Gabriel’s red card from the Chelsea match, Paul Merson has unleashed a scathing attack on Diego Costa and said that he reckons the match should be played again.

Speaking in his column, the former Arsenal man had a good old rant about the Chelsea striker, saying that he’s now a “marked man” and probably won’t even get to play 30 games this season, since referees will be, quite rightly, keeping an eye on him.

The pundit went on the say how Gabriel having his red card overturned is little consolation considering we lost the game 2-0 in the end. What could have been an even match swiftly became one-sided, yet even after we went down to 10 and then nine men, we were still putting up a fight. Chelsea’s goals came from a poorly marked set-piece and an own goal – hardly league-winning stuff from the Blues.

“I think they should play that Chelsea v Arsenal match again,” Merson said.

“Arsenal lost. It doesn’t matter to them now that Gabriel’s red card got overturned. The damage had already been done.

“That three points could be the difference between them winning and losing the title this season.

“So I think they should replay the game when it’s been shown there was an obvious refereeing mistake that decided the result.”

It’ll never happen, but he’s got a point.
