At the weekend Arsenal goalkeeper, spending the season on loan at Wolves, made a brilliant double save from a penalty.

With Wolves down to 10 men they held on to a point against league leaders Brighton, and the Argentine was thrilled with the team. You can see the fantastic double save here.

“We have to finish up being delighted with a point,” the goalkeeper said to wolves.co.uk after the game. “It wasn’t just about the penalty save – it was the performance of the team overall.

“It was a first clean sheet of the season and we have to be delighted with that and enjoy it.

“We are all pleased we managed to do it, we did a really good job given they are top of the league and flying and we were down to ten men.”

Wolves find themselves 18th in the Championship, a disappointing start to the season after they ended the last campaign so strongly. Now they have to take some momentum from the game, and Martinez is taking nothing for granted.

“From now on we have to push on and pick up some more victories.

“I faced a penalty at Bolton last week and couldn’t save it but Pat (Mountain) said in training I would get the next one and I did.

“He also got on the end of the rebound and I just spread myself in front of him and blocked it.

“When you make a save you are wanting to get up really quickly to see where the ball goes – and it was right in front of me! I got up really quickly and managed to save it.”

The saves were huge, with Wolves going on to win a point. The goalkeeper also kept his first clean sheet of the season thanks to his terrific reflexes.

Martinez has now played four Championship games for Wolves this season, and faces strong competition from Carl Ikeme for the goalkeeper’s shirt. Hopefully he can string together a number of good performances and really establish himself.
