Arsenal u21s face Newcastle United u21s on Friday evening and will be looking to continue their unbeaten start to the season by winning at St. James’ Park, just as the senior side did a fortnight ago.

Three games have brought nine points so far, with the Gunners squeezing past Fulham and Derby County with last minute winners before a 5-0 demolition of West Ham United before the international break, and Alex Iwobi says the players are eager to keep that run going.

“We are unbeaten at the moment and you could see against West Ham that the lads’ performance was very good,” the winger told Arsenal.com before the trip to Newcastle.

“We are just trying to kick on each game and do the best we can, win games and keep clean sheets.”

Arsenal have kept two clean sheets in the three games so far, with Derby scoring twice in the second fixture to slightly soil an otherwise flawless start to the new campaign.

Iwobi scored 10 goals for the u21s last season and grabbed his first for the senior team when he scored against Olympique Lyonnais during the Emirates Cup. He was an unused sub the following weekend as Arsenal won the Community Shield but is aiming to get back into Arsène Wenger’s squad during the season.

“I’m trying to get as many [goals] as I can and beat what I got last season, but also break into the first team and get a few games there,”
said the Nigerian-born teenage winger.

“The main thing the coaches try to give is me belief and confidence. They say I have the ability, they just say I have to believe in myself so each game I try to do the best that I can, not overdo it, and do what has got me where I am today.

“We are all buzzing, everyone in the changing room. The confidence is high, we are just waiting for the next game. We can’t wait for it.”

Sounds good, huh? Hopefully the young Gunners can continue their 100% start to the season with three more points at Newcastle on Friday evening.
