Since Mesut Özil arrived in London in September 2013, the idea of him threading the ball through to Mesut Özil has been mouthwatering but never come to fruition.

Injuries, mainly suffered by Walcott, have seen the playing time of the pair restricted but both were available for Saturday’s win over Stoke City.

Özil duly put Walcott through on goal for Arsenal’s opener, and it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone as this impressive stat shows.

Between them the two players have 15 goals and eight assists in just 14 appearances together. The latest and first of the new season was truly brilliant.

Walcott is vying with Olivier Giroud for the spot up front and, if Mesut Özil is also in the team, playing the Englishman is a much more attractive option.
