Germany, with Mesut Özil on the pitch, beat Scotland 3-2 on Monday night with two goals coming from Thomas Müller.

The Bayern Munich star struck twice and assisted another to keep up what is an incredible goalscoring record for club and country.

Müller is far from an out-and-out striker, usually playing from the right of midfield, but that doesn’t stop him from getting amongst the goals with incredible regularity. On Monday night former Liverpool man Dietmar Hamann was in the Sky Sports studio and compared him to a former Arsenal midfielder.

“He’s a very underrated player because he’s a bit unorthodox but he’s very quick, he’s very clever,” Hamman said of Müller, who netted his 29th and 30th goals for his country at Hamden Park. Still just 25 years of age, his record is nothing short of remarkable.

“Whenever he’s got a chance – he gets in such great positions – he’s a great finisher.

“That’s what he gives because he’s always sniffing around that offside line, he reminds me at times of Freddie Ljungberg when he makes his runs, the positions he gets into, he’s very clever and he’s a great finisher.”

During his time at Arsenal, Ljungberg became a fan favourite. The Swede scored 71 Arsenal goals including a brilliant 17 during the double season of 2001/02.

With Robert Pirès, Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp often claiming the headlines Ljungberg’s influence in that Arsenal team was somewhat under appreciated but he was crucial as the Gunners had the best attacking force in England for a number of years.

Tell you what, why not enjoy all of his Arsenal goals here?

Hopefully Müller isn’t at his best when Arsenal face his Bayern Munich side twice over the next two months in the Champions League.
