Arsenal’s apparent interest in Mario Gotze, which probably never existed, has suffered a blow at the hands of Pep Guardiola.

The Bayern Munich manager recently confessed his undying love for the midfielder, making it clear that any potential move to either Arsenal or Manchester United was off the cards any time soon.

“I love Mario Gotze,” said the Munich manager. “I have said it a million times and I will say it a million times again.

“He is a super guy and a super character with a great attitude. Everything was easier after Mario’s goal. He is a top player and has enormous quality.”

Wow, get a room.

The 23-year-old has scored 32 goals in just under 100 appearances for the Bundesliga team and has already scored two in six this season. The midfielder has also scored 14 goals in 45 appearances for Germany. He’s a huge asset.

Gotze’s one of Munich’s main men and, even though we were rumoured to be willing to pay £50m to bring him to north London, I have a feeling it would take a lot more for Guardiola to part with him.

Saying this, the likelihood that we were ever actually interested in Gotze seems slim-to-none and therefore, I doubt Wenger will be losing sleep over Guardiola’s comments.
