Olivier Giroud did not shirk away from the criticism he faced after being booed by his own fans as France beat Serbia 2-1 in a friendly match.

The Arsenal front man was replaced after 62 minutes by Karim Benzema and the home fans did not hold back in how they felt about what was, admittedly, a poor performance.

Twitter was at its absolute worst in the wake of the game which saw Giroud miss a clear-cut chance, but, as always, it seemed that many people were quick to go over the top with their criticism.

Speaking after the game, Giroud didn’t seem too downbeat however he did admit that he had some areas that he needed to work on.

“Tonight I wasn’t very efficient. It is like it is. I cannot focus too much on it,” Giroud told reporters.

“I have to think about the victory of the team and the good form we are currently experiencing.

“We did well against Portugal and it is great to confirm with a second victory for the confidence.

“Everything was not perfect but we play well especially during the first half.

“I am going first, to enjoy our victory and then obviously I will have to correct a few things.”

Giroud is very much a confidence player and it is clear to see that he is lacking that a little at the minute. Quite what these people who are screaming at him think they will achieve by doing so is beyond me.
