Following Gabriel’s admission of improper conduct during the Chelsea v Arsenal match, the FA have given him a one-match ban and fine after a personal hearing.

The ban will be carried out immediately, which means he misses the match away against Leicester on Saturday and the fine is for £10,000.

The centre-back has also been warned about his behaviour in future.

Although this is an improvement on the three-match ban he would have received should his red card stood after his scuffle with Diego Costa, considering the Chelsea striker is getting the same amount, it’s little consolation, especially as the FA have admitted they were initially wrong.

Hopefully the Brazilian learns from this and realises that getting yourself wound up on the pitch won’t end well. As much as many of us admire his ‘passion’, we would have much rather he stayed on the pitch in what would have been a reasonably fair match (although how fair can it really be with Costa in the game?).

As it was, we lost 2-0 and we can’t take that back. All we can do now is move on.
