Rio Ferdinand reckons Arsenal (or Liverpool) should have bought Swansea City’s Ashley Williams during the transfer window.

A couple of seasons ago, if reports are to be believed, the centre-back was lined up for a move to Arsenal but the transfer never happened. Since then, we’re signed Gabriel who’s doing a sterling job when called into action.

However, former United defender Ferdinand reckons we should have snapped up the 31-year-old recently, insisting that the Wales international is better than who we’ve bought.

Williams has now played 320 matches for Swansea and racked up 50 caps for his national side, which is a pretty impressive tally. However, whether he’s better than Gabriel or not is debatable, considering the Brazilian hasn’t really put a foot wrong or even played enough to be able to fairly judge him next to the Welshman.
