Eric Dier will not be winning himself any friends up the Seven Sisters Road after his latest comments that basically involved a love-in over Tony Adams.

The Spurs youngster, who signed for the club last summer from Sporting on a five-year deal that reportedly cost the club just £4m, was talking to the media about the former Arsenal captain and even as he spoke, he knew that the Spurs fans wouldn’t like what he had to say.

“Tottenham fans might not be happy with me for this, but I met Tony Adams quite a few times,” Dier said.

“He came away with us when I played for England when I was younger and it was great to be around him.

“I think it was when I was with the Under-19s. One day in training we were a player short so he trained with us – and it was great.

“It was unbelievable. He struggled physically because he was older but he managed to control everyone and spoke so well.

“I don’t know how old he was at the time but his body was past it, yet he managed to cope because he could read the game so well and just talked non-stop.”

There’s not much that comes out of N17 that’s worth listening to, but stuff like this, especially when you know how annoying it will be to their supporters, certainly is.
