Following their superb World Cup Bronze medal, the England girls are back in business in Tallin, Estonia for their first Euro 2017 qualifier.

There is no doubt that England will have an easy ride to the Euros.

Their ppponents are Estonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Belgium and England will have to schedule games against tougher opposition in order to remain competitive, the first of which to be arranged is against Germany in Duisburg.

In terms of squad evolution, no player has announced their international retirement, so the 23 World Cup players will fight to keep their place in the squad.

However, there are many newcomers knocking at the door such as Dan Carter, Gilly Flaherty and Mary Earps, while experienced players like Gemma Davison have been given a rare chance.

Considering her club record, the fact that she has not got even ten caps is just surprising to say the least.

In-form forwards, like Natasha Dowie or youngster Beth Mead who is the current League top scorer and not in the squad, so she needs to work at her game according to the comments made by the coaching staff.

The main challenge for England for the 2015-17 period is to find competitive friendlies to prepare for the tournaments, while doing the business in qualifiers.

They will also need to find new blood and probably evolve the systems used at the World Cup as opponents will be familiar with England’s flexible tactics a bit more now.
