David Seaman has been lauding Petr Cech as the man who can help Arsenal gain some manner of consistency.

The former Chelsea man left Stamford Bridge for life in a far less cheaty environment and has already brought a measure of calm to the Arsenal defence. Mostly (he’s not a miracle worker, give him time).

Although he was the only senior summer signing the club made, it’s hard to deny that it was a massive one that lifted the whole club and fan base while also annoying a lot of Chelsea fans into the bargain.

“It is a problem solved for Arsene,” Seaman told the Daily Mail.

“You have got a goalkeeper there with great quality, great experience and who commands immediate respect from the Arsenal players for what he has done in the game.

“Ospina has done well and is a little unfortunate to find himself as No 2 – Wojciech Szczesny has shown inconsistency and you can’t do that as Arsenal goalkeeper.

“With Cech you have just got quality. The consistency helps sustain a challenge, it helps the confidence of the defence – they know you’re not going to be making mistakes and being rash in games.

“That is what you get with Petr Cech, he won’t make many mistakes and he is already showing how good he is despite having a new back four in front of him.”

Cech is likely to find himself back on the bench, however, for the next game against Tottenham with Ospina set to start the game.

Here at Daily Cannon we know many fans who think Ospina is a great keeper and based on his World Cup performances we’d have to agree.

Based on his Arsenal ones, however, we’re still not convinced he has a future at the club as anything other than backup…and Woj and Emi Martinez might have something to say about that.
