Arsenal’s Calum Chambers will be back in London on Tuesday after the England u21s enjoyed two tough victories over the course of the international break.

A tight game against USA u23s on Friday saw the Young Lions win 1-0, and they managed the same scoreline once more to defeat Norway on Monday evening as they embarked on qualification for the 2017 u21 European Championships. A James Ward-Prowse penalty was the only goal as Chambers played the entire 90 minutes at the back.

Chambers started at centre-back for England u21s in both games and will be delighted to come away with two hard earned clean sheets following heavy criticism for his performance in Arsenal’s 0-0 draw with Liverpool two weeks ago.

With Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel all available Chambers is likely to find his first team opportunities at Arsenal limited for a while, with the possibility that he will only play in the League Cup.

It’s easy to forget that the defender is still just 20 years old and has a hell of a lot of time to improve before he reaches his peak. For the time being, playing for England u21s is likely to be a great step for him.
