Hector Bellerin has been called up by Vicente del Bosque and will join the Spanish national side ahead of their upcoming European qualifying matches.

It has been quite a whirlwind year for the 20-year-old, for sure. He was third-choice at the club before Mathieu Debuchy’s injury problems and Carl Jenkinson’s loan deal not that long ago.

Now, he has nailed down the starting spot, gained himself a new contract and has been further rewarded with an intentional call (what must Mikel Arteta be thinking?) after 25 starts for the Gunners last season and two goals.

Representing his country at all levels up to u21, you’d be hard pushed to find anyone who doesn’t think that this call up is 100% deserved.

Spain will face Slovakia and Macedonia on September 5th and 8th respectively.

Well done, Hector!
