Back in 2011, a 16-year-old Spanish right winger left Barcelona to join Arsenal.

Four years on, Héctor Bellerín is Arsenal’s first choice right-back and one of the best young players in England, if not the world.

Born in Barcelona, the defender made a tough choice to leave for London but is now in the Arsenal first team, something that surely wouldn’t have been possible so soon with the Spanish giants. Bellerín lined up in an all-conquering Barcelona youth team that had Sergi Samper as its star, but the midfielder is still a long way from being given regular opportunities at Camp Nou.

“It has paid off,” Bellerin told SkySports.

“I am very happy with the decision I made. It was hard, but I always say the train comes just once and you either take it or you don’t.

“I took it and I am very happy with the opportunity Arsenal have given me and very happy to be in the position I am in today.”

After Cesc Fàbregas was raised at the club only to leave for a Barcelona return, fans will be glad to hear Bellerín isn’t dreaming of the same thing.

The 20-year-old signed a new contract in the summer and sees himself staying at Arsenal for a long time.

“I’ve always said the reason I came to Arsenal is because I want to stay here and I am not thinking about going anywhere else.”

The Spaniard is destined for huge things. He’s been playing regular football in the top flight for under a year, yet the progression he’s made had been incredible. There are no limits for Bellerín, hopefully he can reach the very top at Arsenal.

Thankfully, it seems as though he wants to.
