Are Arsenal set to go head-to-head with Chelsea again already?

According to the Daily Express both London clubs are looking into the possibility of signing Valencia left-back José Gayà.

The talented Spaniard, who is just 20 years old, established himself as the Spanish side’s first choice left-back last season. Valencia went on to finish fourth in La Liga, and Gayà has been incredibly impressive.

Arsenal, of course, already have Héctor Bellerín – who plays with Gayà for the Spain u21 team – on the other side of the defence, and the duo could form a deal partnership at international level over the course of the next decade.

Gayà has a £36m release clause, which Arsenal would never pay. Meanwhile, Chelsea recently spent big money on young left-back Abdul Rahman Baba from FC Augsburg, so won’t want another player for that position for a while.

The Gunners have Nacho Monreal as first choice, but he doesn’t have a  great number of years in front of him and we will have to start looking for replacements in the near future.

I’m sure someone like Gayà will be on the shortlist, but he doesn’t seem to be in our price range.
