A study by Soccerex has seen Arsenal forward Alexis Sánchez named the best transfer in Europe from last season.

The Chilean international signed for Arsenal from Barcelona in a £32m deal following the World Cup in Brazil and was an instant hit with fans thanks to his boundless energy and desire to win.

After playing all four games Chile were involved in at the World Cup he made 52 Arsenal appearances in his first season for the club, scoring 25 goals before returning to South America to once again play every match and help his country win the Copa América before finally having a break in July.

That didn’t last long as Alexis was back in action on the opening weekend of the Premier League season having been through just four first team training sessions.

Now the Soccerex study has found that he played a higher proportion of minutes for Arsenal last season than any other signing from last summer managed to play for their new club.

Alexis played in an incredible 86% of Arsenal’s minutes last season, we truly got our money’s worth.

The same can’t be said of Manchester United, who saw a staggering £27m spent on left-back Luke Shaw for him to play just 33% of their minutes in the 2014/15 campaign. At least Shaw is one for the future, though; the deal for Angel Di Maria cost £59.7m and, after playing just 48% of Manchester United’s minutes last season, the Argentine winger has already left Old Trafford.

I understand that making a loss on players doesn’t mean a great deal to a club with as much income as Manchester United, but I’m happy that I don’t see my club wasting such huge amounts on transfers that don’t pay off.
