The UEFA Women’s Champions League draw has been made today and has been very nice to the two English teams with Liverpool, who were seeded, drawing Italian side Brescia from Italy and unseeded Chelsea drawn against Glasgow City of Scotland.

The draw in full:

BIIK-Kazygurt (KAZ) – FC Barcelona (ESP)
Medyk Konin (GRE) – Olympique Lyonnais (FRA)
Olimpia Cluj (ROU) – Paris Saint-Germain (FRA)
Slavia Praha (CZE) – Brøndby (DEN)
Standard Liège (BEL) – FFC Frankfurt (GER)
PAOK (GRE) – KIF Örebro (SWE)
FC Twente (NED) – Bayern München (GER)

PK-35 Vantaa (FIN) – Rosengård (SWE)
ZFK Minsk (BLR) – Fortuna Hjørring (DEN)
Spartak Subotica (SRB) – Wolfsburg (GER)
Brescia (ITA) – Liverpool (ENG)

First legs of the ties are to be played 7th/8th October and the return fixtures will take place on 14th/15th October.

Some seeded teams might be eliminated early with Barcelona, Zvedva, Zorkiy and Glasgow City all facing tricky draws.

Chelsea Ladies were lucky to avoid the six best teams in the competition, as they were unseeded and will meet Scotland’s finest who they comfortably beat in pre-season. It will be surely dubbed the battle of Britain. The Blues will be expected to take a strong lead at home and defend it in Glasgow.

Liverpool Ladies have drawn Brescia and will be hoping to have their whole squad back to full fitness as some of the World Cup stars like Asisat Oshoala and Fara Williams are currently unavailable due to injury. They should still go through, and will be boosted by the experience of playing in the competition last season.

The main favourites Frankfurt, Wolfsburg, FC Bayern, Olympique Lyonnais, PSG and Rosengard each have fairly easy draws and the round of 32 should see each of them win by comfortable margins.

Ex-Arsenal Academy player Rachel Pitman, who plies her trade in Iceland after four years at De Paul University in Chicago, will be travelling to Perm, Russia, with Stjarnan.
