According to the Mirror Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck is finally back in training on Tuesday.

The Englishman, who scored eight goals in his first Arsenal season, surely won’t be available for the Gunners for the beginning of the Premier League season on Sunday but it is a huge boost to learn that he could return soon.

Welbeck last played for Arsenal on 26th April, coming off the bench against Chelsea, but has not played since after suffering a knee injury. Originally reported as a bruised bone and expected to be a short-term issue, the striker missed the FA Cup Final in May.

Despite only being a doubt for that win over Aston Villa at Wembley, Welbeck was still struggling with his knee when Arsenal returned for pre-season training over a month later and missed the entire preparation for the new campaign.

Arsenal signed Welbeck for a reported £16M from Manchester United last season and, though he only netted eight goals, the England international proved he has what it takes to play for the Gunners. He is strong, quick, and intelligent – there’s every chance that Wenger has a key role planned for Welbeck.

Fitness is crucial as there is healthy competition for places. Theo Walcott is being used as a centre-forward and Welbeck will also have Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sánchez to compete with during the season.

As Danny is set to prove his fitness Arsenal have allowed Chuba Akpom to head out on loan to Hull City, as there are simply too many players in front of him at Emirates Stadium for him to have any chance of regular football.
