Arsenal midfielder has had an impressive start to his loan spell at Birmingham City, and is aiming to continue that on Friday night.

The Blues face Derby County and Toral is hoping to get over a bit of hamstring tightness to play his third Championship game in a row, having scored in the previous two.

Birmingham are unbeaten after the first two league games of the season and could head to the top of the league on Friday, with Toral eager to continue impressing.

“For me it’s about playing as many times as possible but also about performing well, working hard, helping Birmingham get to a high position in the table and seeing if we can do something special,” Toral told the Birmingham Mail.

“Are we on the right track? Of course, the team is working hard every day in training and when the games come we are always confident.”

The 20 year-old midfielder only has one year remaining on his current Arsenal contract after a series of serious knee injuries curtailed his progress. The young midfielder joined from Barcelona along with Héctor Bellerín back in 2011 but has not developed as the club had hoped.

Now he seems to be past those setbacks and is enjoying life in the Championship, harbouring high hopes for Birmingham this year.

“We know what we are doing, we want to win games and get into the high positions in the table to do something good this season.

“There is confidence in the squad, the lads are happy. We have won two games already (one in the League Cup) and we want to make it three.”

A win on Friday would take Birmingham on to seven points from the first three games of the season, a fantastic start under Gary Rowett and Toral as he looks to follow close friend Héctor Bellerín and make his mark on English football.
