Another injury is the last thing Jack Wilshere needs.

The Arsenal midfielder’s career has been nothing but stuttering thanks to a number of injuries, and the latest will see him miss the opening three weeks of the new season according to the Daily Mail.

After featuring in every game of the Barclays Asia Trophy and Emirates Cup over pre-season it appeared likely that Wilshere was fitter than ever before the new campaign, which begins for Arsenal this Sunday. The midfielder then missed the Community Shield last weekend with an ankle issue from training.

Arsène Wenger insisted that the injury would only keep Wilshere out for a matter of days but Wilshere is now expected to miss the opening two Premier League games of the season at the very least. With an international break at the beginning of September he is also likely to miss out on the next England squad.

With a deep squad Arsenal may well be able to get on without Wilshere but the midfielder is in danger of dropping further down the pecking order at Emirates Stadium. He already faced competition from Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla, Mesut Özil, Mikel Arteta and Francis Coquelin and is arguably behind all of those players.

For the sake of his career Wilshere cannot afford another season which is constantly interrupted by injuries.
