Yaya Sanogo’s loan spell in the Netherlands could have gotten off to a better start.

The French forward featured off the bench as the Dutch side were knocked out of the Champions League at the qualifying stage and has been criticised by head of the academy Ronald de Boer, who said the Arsenal man has “no qualities”.

That was despite seeing Yaya net a hat-trick in a friendly for Ajax Jong!

Sanogo has come off the bench twice for Ajax as they have won both of their early season Eredivisie games by a 3-0 scoreline, but he has only featured in 35 minutes of action. In that time he has not taken a shot and managed to complete fewer than 50% of his passes. Ouch.

On Monday the striker was once again playing for Ajax Jong, who drew 1-1 in the Dutch Eertse Divisie.

As you can see the line-up also included well-known and established first-team players Ricardo van Rhijn, Lucas Andersen and Viktor Fischer, so it comes as a bit of a shock to see that they couldn’t puck up all three points.

Sanogo will no doubt be feeling a bit disappointed so far, but will surely be handed a chance to impress Frank de Boer once the team, or striker Arkadiusz Milik, look a bit more uncomfortable.

I think the striker still has plenty about him. Things happen when he’s on the pitch and it doesn’t seem to be a coincidence. Hopefully he does more at Ajax this season when he is allowed the chance to shine.
