Teenage striker Chuba Akpom has completed a loan move to Championship side Hull City.

Tigers boss Steve Bruce was eager to add some goals and youth to his squad and earmarked Akpom as a player capable of adding both as the club look to bounce straight back into the Premier League following relegation.

On Tuesday afternoon Arsenal confirmed the deal, with Akpom set to spend the entire 2015/16 season with Hull.

Pre-season started with the 19 year-old scoring a hat-trick against the Singapore Select XI before featuring off the bench against Everton, Lyon and Wolfsburg as Arsenal won the Barclays Asia Trophy and Emirates Cup.

This is Akpom’s second spell in the Championship after he ended last season with seven first-team appearances for Nottingham Forest. He excited during substitute appearances for Arsenal against the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa last season but is still searching for his first professional goal.

The England u20 international has also spent loan spells at Coventry City and Brentford in League One as well as playing nine times for the Arsenal first-team.

The striker has been prolific at youth level for quite some time and now has to translate it to the professional stage.

Isaac Hayden also joined Hull City on loan recently and will be a familiar face for Akpom as he arrives on Humberside.

Unfortunately for the pair of them loan deals rarely indicate a chance to impress for Arsenal is on the horizon. Jack Wilshere and Alex Song both had brief loan spells in the Premier League before making the grade under Arsène Wenger while Francis Coquelin was brought back last season due to injuries, not his performances at Charlton.

With a season-long loan it is very easy to become forgotten, and that is very much the danger for Akpom looking forward. He’ll have to pull out all the stops to really catch the eye.
