Nacho Monreal has reportedly entered into negotiations to sign a new three-year deal with Arsenal.

The left-back, who was linked with a move away from north London earlier in the window, is said to be prepared to sign on the dotted line now that his place in the starting 11 is more-or-less secured.

The 29-year-old featured for us 39 times last season after injury-prone Kieran Gibbs got sidelined again and the Spaniard had to take over. Monreal grew into the role with ease and even scored in our 2-1 victory over Manchester United in the FA Cup.

It’d be a shame to see him go, considering his contribution to the team over the last half-a-year.

His current deal takes him up until 2017, so if reports are true and he is signing an extension until 2020, it’s safe to say the defender could well be seeing his career out at Arsenal, which would be excellent. The more players we can tie down long-term, the better (except Flamini).
