Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny made his debut for AS Roma in a 1-1 draw with Verona as he embarks on his Serie A loan spell.

Szczesny is now surely the first-choice goalkeeper ahead of veteran Italian stopper Morgan De Sanctis, who was Roma’s number one last season.

Unfortunately the on-loan Arsenal man couldn’t get across his goal to prevent an opener from Bosko Jankovic, but Roma did come back to secure a point.

It wasn’t the busiest of days for Szczesny but he did produce one eye-catching double save, showcasing the ability he has always had to get across his goal quickly after making a save, using his snapshot reflexes to keep Roma level with the score still at 0-0.

When Petr Čech signed for Arsenal it was immediately clear that he would be number one and one of Szczesny and David Ospina would have to leave the club. With Szczesny seeking first-team football for his development, he has headed out on loan to the club from the Italian capital as he looks to be Poland’s number one at the Euros next summer, should they qualify.

As big fans of the 25 year-old, we at Daily Cannon will be keeping close tabs on Szczesny’s time at Roma. Keep coming back for the latest updates on keeper.
