Ainsley Maitland-Niles made his fifth appearance for Ipswich Town while on loan on Saturday but unfortunately had to be substituted at half time.

The midfielder picked up a yellow card in the 11th minute of the match against Brighton & Hove Albion, forcing manager Mick McCarthy to take him off at half time to save him from another.

Although the 18-year-old is bound to be disappointed with his first yellow card of the season, it’s hardly a disaster. So far, in his handful of appearances, the youngster has already grabbed an assist and impressed his temporary manager with his work rate.

Ipswich lost 3-2 to Brighton, leaving them third in the league, which isn’t the most catastrophic position to be in, and not something Maitland-Niles should even consider beating himself up about. The midfielder has a bright future yet and, if anything, he should learn from his mistake.

It’s just unfortunate that the yellow card had to fall on his 18th birthday!
