Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson’s nightmare start to the season has continued with the defender receiving a red card on Saturday.

Jenkinson is on loan at the Hammers for the second consecutive season and had to go in goal last weekend when goalkeeper Adrian was red carded.

He couldn’t feature in the opening weekend as Arsenal faced West Ham at the Emirates, and once again failed to last 90 minutes on pitch at Upton Park on his second Premier League appearance of the new season.

The England U21 right-back struggled to get forward as Bournemouth put in a sterling performance to win 4-3, managing to deliver just one cross in the 79 minutes he was on the pitch.

The story wasn’t much better defensively, with Jenkinson completing just two of four attempted clearances in his own third and winning just two of four attempted tackles. It got much worse than that, as West Ham’s own Twitter account confirmed.

The Hammers had worked themselves into a good position from 2-2 down but Jenkinson ‘sold himself’ to allow Bournemouth to retake the lead before bringing down Max Gradel in the box and getting himself sent off in the process.

The penalty was converted and, despite a late West Ham goal, Bournemouth held on for all three points.

After the Hammers won at Arsenal on the opening day Jenkinson has played in both of their Premier League fixtures, and both have ended in defeat.

Maybe his place in the team may not be so safe in the near future.
