Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny said the team needs to win at following Monday night’s home draw against Liverpool.

The Gunners have won just four points from the opening three games of the season and, though he is anticipating a difficult game, Koscielny feel it’s vital that the Gunners pick up all three points.

“We lost two points at home and we need to win so it will be a difficult game, like every time we go to Newcastle,” the defender told Arsenal.com. “It’s a hard game but we need to be focused on our quality, on our game, play with pressure on our opponent, score some goals and win.”

He makes it sound so pleasantly simple, doesn’t he?

Koscielny has been named in the France squad so will be due for international duty following the weekend, and doesn’t want to leave without winning all three points first.

“The most important is to come back to London with the three points. After you have the international break so we need to finish August with a win.”

The Frenchman missed the goalless game but could return for the trip to St. James’ Park, where he has fond memories.

The Gunners have had a little trouble scoring of late, but Koscielny has netted at Newcastle before.

“It was the last game of the season,” the centre-back explained. “We were just in front of Tottenham and if we won against Newcastle, we would qualify for the Champions League.

“I scored and we won 1-0. It was a special day because for Arsenal, playing in the Champions League is always vital and a very exciting competition to play in so we were very happy with this.”

Arsenal are back in the Champions League this season and have been drawn against Bayern Munich, another team that Koscielny has scored away from home against.

It is for his work at the back, though, that Arsenal need him back as soon as possible. Hopefully he is available for selection as early as Saturday.
