Arsenal have visited Wembley six times since April 2014. Two FA Cup semi-finals, two FA Cup finals, two Community Shield games.

Since arriving in London Olivier Giroud has been Arsène Wenger’s first choice striker, but has started in just one of those Wembley games. Yaya Sanogo and Theo Walcott have been selected ahead of Giroud twice, Danny Welbeck once.

In fact Giroud hasn’t started in any of Arsenal’s last four Wembley outings, and the Frenchman is a little bit disappointed.

“Yes, there’s a little disappointment,” he told L’Equipe, “but Theo had scored against Wolfsburg. As long as the team wins, no matter if I’m on the field or on the bench.”

Well, the team did win. Giroud contributed positively too, offering Arsenal a release from Chelsea’s incessant pressure.

“I gave the max when I entered. I could even have scored. On a personal level, there is no problem. I am happy where I am.”

It’s lucky that he’s happy. The striker has come on an incredible amount at Arsenal and was fantastic last season. Wenger may want a more fluid system with Walcott an option up front, as are Danny Welbeck and Alexis Sánchez, but Giroud’s ability to bring others into play is superb.

Arsenal don’t quite have anything like Olivier Giroud and he will surely play an important role once again this season.
