Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Čech has only made three Premier League appearances for the club, but has already done something pretty impressive.

The goalkeeper made eight saves – including two world class stops in the first half – against Liverpool in Monday night’s draw, and has received praise from everywhere.

Incredibly, the eight saves he made was the most an Arsenal goalkeeper has made in a Premier League game for six years. Back in 2009 Lukasz Fabianski made nine saves also in a game against Liverpool, but he conceded four goals that night as Arsenal drew once again.

Some context: Wojciech Szczesny hadn’t made his Arsenal debut the last time an Arsenal goalkeeper made eight saves in a Premier League game.

Čech’s evening also rolled back the years on a personal level. Not since February 2013 has the former Chelsea goalkeeper made as many as eight saves in one game. That night Chelsea, managed by Rafael Benitez at the time, lost 3-2 up at St. James’ Park with Čech facing 13 shots on goal.

Arsenal’s next game? Yep. The Gunners travel to St. James’ Park to face Newcastle United.

Hopefully the 33 year-old isn’t so busy on Saturday afternoon.
